Based on the sprites from the Gameboy Advance Game, Detective Conan: Akatsuki no Monument, I made a tiny Cone to inhabit my (and your) computer!

Have fun watching your murder magnet skate around, summon other Cones through the power of ball, and solve any murder cases that come your way~ Hope you all enjoy!!

I thought this would be a nice successor to my Windows XP Desktop Pet Conan project! As cool as the software is, it doesn't run perfectly on modern systems, which is a real shame. I think this kind of gets us closer to it by using official sprites from one of the Detective Conan games!

This was such a spur of the moment project LMAO When I realized there's a large sprite sheet of Conan available I knew I had to turn him into a Shimeji. It took me about a day to go through the sprites and turn them into the Shimeji image files (and a half of a day to set up everything to be published lol). There were a few image files that I needed to do some edits to, but aside from that and some rescaling, the sprites are all the same.

I've made a replacement for most of the image files. 34-36 doesn't have a replacement because I didn't manage to have that Shimeji action run. Since I can't actually test it, I didn't bother with editing a sprite to fit with it.
As for 42-46, I couldn't find a set of sprites that would best fit them without any major editing. So instead, I disabled that action in the .xml files. Since there is already an image set for Cone duplication (37-41), I figured it wasn't necessary anyways.

(me speedrunning this project for no reason)

Speaking of, I also went ahead and used other assets from the other Detective Conan software I covered! They included a file for the icon they used and I decided to repurpose it for the small Shimeji icon in the corner (The large scale version of the icon can be seen in the top left corner of the demo video. I also used a wallpaper from that same software in this video!). It's nice how this project ended up bringing together a variety of old Detective Conan assets!
These silly projects are always a labor of love so I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did making it!

Detective Conan Desktop Character (デスクトップキャラクター 名探偵コナン) developed by ORSEN in 1998
Super happy to have come across this CD-ROM! The packaging is so so cute (look at the different Conan's peeking out of the squares!)

As you can tell by the video, the CD-ROM gets you a Conan that follows your cursor around. Conan would either walk at a leisurely pace, or if your cursor is farther away, he'd use his skateboard to chase it.

There are nine separate actions to choose from each with a unique voice line and animation. He also has two idle animations, where he's either pacing in a circle or bouncing a soccer ball. The remaining buttons in the menu increase/decrease his size and closes the program. I'm sure the window would have a proper title but my OS couldn't process it.

If you're interested in checking this out, I have the CD-ROM archived here! It works perfectly on a Windows XP virtual machine but has visual glitches on Windows 10. Though apart from those glitches, if you really wanted to, he works just fine otherwise!
Now some lore on the company...

ORSEN was a company that created fun software in the late 90s and early 2000s, many of which are desktop characters. This includes a desktop character set based on the Lupin the Third series, with Lupin, Jigen, Goemon, and Fujiko!

If you're interested, more of their desktop characters can be found on Archive.org (searching "ORSEN" and "オルセン" would show results).
ORSEN's website is no longer up but some snapshots have been archived. One snapshot had some images of other characters they've made, although the text is corrupted. I was digging around to see if anything on the Detective Conan Desktop Character was up but couldn't find it. Though, I did find a page promoting their Fujiko desktop character!
Interestingly, Fujiko's CD includes additional features such as a themed internet browser skin, wallpaper, icons, and a screensaver.
Hope you enjoyed reading about this silly CD-ROM, along with the company's other creations!

Detective Conan Digital Album (名探偵コナン デジカメ写真アルバム) developed by Skycom Inc. and distributed by SOURCENEXT.
Above is the opening sequence as well as some gameplay of the 2004 Detective Conan Digital Album CD-ROM. The gist of the program is that you can upload your own photos and decorate them with Detective Conan themed images. You can create albums, printouts, and wallpapers! Below you can see what the CD jacket and CD look like:

The digital manual included some pictures of the user interface. Most of the buttons are accompanied by voicelines from the characters.
There's some cute backgrounds used in the album creation that can be found in the program files. There's 50 unique backgrounds in total, each having a portrait and landscape version. Most are plain backgrounds with patterns but there's a few, which I included below, that I thought were interesting:
Apart from album creation, any uploaded photos can also be turned into sliding puzzles. For these puzzles, either Conan, Ran, or Haibara accompany you as you solve them. In addition, there's three activities (or tricks) you can do with your completed album:
- Scratching off an image to reveal your photo underneath.
- Getting four gadgets (magnifying glass, tracker, glasses, and shoes) to interact with your photos.
- Viewing your album with characters that would speak and run across.
I uploaded the CD-ROM files along with scans of the physical materials to the Internet Archive if you're interested in checking it out yourself! I was running it on a Windows XP virtual machine and it worked mostly fine there. I had issues getting the photo album creation to work properly on Windows 10. Overall, pretty simple but I thought it was cute! Hope this was an interesting tidbit of Detective Conan history~
